Helping Animals, One Paw at a Time.

It is because of people like you that we are able to bring pets and families together. We are working hard to build a more humane community.  We can't do that without your help, thank you for helping us, help the pets in our community!

Love Me? Leave Me Home!

Already this summer, SCRAPS Animal Protection Officers have responded to dozens of pets left in hot cars.  Please leave your pets at home during the summer heat.  The temperature inside your car, even with the windows open, can quickly soar to dangerous levels.

Happy Tails - Adoption Stories:

Manners Matter

The owners of a German shepherd mix that came to SCRAPS surrendered him for an unusual reason – he ate the siding off their house.  They lived next to a police shooting range and the dog wanted back in the house  any way he could.  When he arrived at the shelter his nervous disposition made him unadoptable.  He was transferred to Kootenai Humane Society who partners with a group that provides intense training for dogs with just this type of behavior.  The dog is doing great in training and will be placed up for adoption shortly.

Taffy is a wonderful black lab with a great personality and very intelligent.  Day after day, she was passed over for adoption because of a tumor on her back.  Potential adopters worried about the cost of the surgery and, what’s more, whether or not it was cancerous.   Our transport staff worked with Homeward Pet Rescue who took Taffy.  The tumor was removed (it was benign) and she quickly found a home
